Since the advent of COVID this store’s service has gone strictly downhill, even to the dogs one might speak. I’ve shopped at HPB for some 35 years and enjoyed it tremendously, being as I am a person with a library of some 2000 books. But they’ve changed, and only for the worse I’m afraid. The staff has become ever increasingly more rude, even yelling at me or other people at times as if they’re somehow endowed with authority to do as they will. At the Dallas branch, their flagship store, I’ve seen young adults, not children mind you, but “adults,” putting books down onto the floor and kicking them around as if in some bibliophilic soccer match. They host militant “political” groups pretending as if it all to be some kind of harmless fun?! Maybe it’s just me, after all, I am getting older and the world is “transforming?” But all I can say is, I'm finished with them. I’ve not experienced anything of the sort with B & N, however, noticing that low end book establishments similar to HPB are experiencing a similar outcome, a bookstore I frequented and will no longer because of similar behavior. Good bye HPB, and good riddance.
Have ordered at least 30 books through the website and have never had a problem. The prices are usually much lower than you see on other sites. Two or three books took maybe a little longer than I would have liked to arrive but for the price they were worth it. The website sells through their network of stores too so it's kind of neat ordering 5 books and getting them from all over the country.
First and last time I order from this company. I ordered 2 books and the orders were canceled due to out of stock on BOTH! What a waste of my time searching this site and going through the check-out process.
LOUSY seller. Said book condition was “good”. I expected some writing. What I got was less than “acceptable”. WRITING ON EVERY SINGLE PAGE OF TEXT - practically every line. Book wasn’t worth the cost of shipping it back. They would only refund purchase price, even though they falsified the condition. EXTREMELY UNHAPPY. Will not trust to buy from them in future. Shop elsewhere.
Always a great order. I often order from various HBP on Amazon and sometimes HPB.com and the condition of the books is always accurate, and often better than how they say. Always great condition books and they ship fast. Great company!
Not a bad place to order from. Sometimes long shipping, but they are spot on with the condition they list something in. They're always nice when I call and have great selection.
I went to my local half Price Books in Marietta last week with my wife. I am disabled and unable to wear a mask due to my disability. I was kicked out of the store without consideration of my medical condition even though I tried to explain. My wife was wearing a mask at the time. The manager told me how their store was ADA compliant. I believe that as a disabled person, if I am not allowed to go into a store and shop due to my disability when I can go into other stores with the same disability then that store can’t be considered ADA compliant. When I complained to their corporate office they ignored my complaint and disability and instead focused on their covid policy. I have loyally spent thousands of dollars at that specific store over the last few years however that company will never get my business again.
I love the store and the employees. However, when I logged on this morning to make a purchase I was greeted with big banner advertising anti-racism books for the "effective ally" ~ "We've complied a list of books we consider fundamental for those who may not be as well versed in the struggle" ....blah, blah, blah. Excuse me? I don't know who they think are acting like a pillar of virtue. That is disappointing, condescending and inappropriate to say the least. I cannot in good conscience give my money to a company that is going to pander and further push this mass hysteria. I'm sorry Half Price Books, I'm sure you don't care about losing one customer but I can never shop with you again.
